Classes, attendance and homework
Each class of a group has its attendance list and can have homework. What’s marked in them is what decides, when the group is finished, who passes.
Take attendance
Section titled “Take attendance”Open a class’s attendance list from Waiting on you, from the group’s page or from the class’s panel, with Take attendance.
- Mark each student present or absent, as at a meeting. The Mark # people present button marks everyone still unmarked at once.
- The arrows at the top take you to the previous class and the next one, so you can catch up without going back to the group.
- The list opens before the class starts, with the window your church sets in Notices and deadlines, and stays open as long as the group is open.
- The group’s teachers take it. Whoever also manages the groups can take it in any group they reach, and everyone else who sees Courses can read it. Nobody marks their own place.
- The note on each mark is seen and written by whoever has See each student’s attendance note, and never about themselves.
While a class has no attendance, it adds nothing toward anyone passing. If nobody took it, whoever gives the class gets the A class’s attendance notification in the bell at the time one would go out for a meeting: by default, 18 hours after it ends. If the class has no teacher chosen, the notification goes to all of the group’s teachers.
Homework
Section titled “Homework”In the Homework tab, New homework sets homework at a class: choose the Class it is given at, the Title, What it asks for and, if you like, the Due day and Due time. Without a time, it’s due at the end of the day.
When you open a piece of homework you record each student’s hand-in: Handed in, Late or Not handed in. Homework is only for information: it’s shown when the group is finished and never decides a result. Homework from a cancelled class doesn’t count, and nobody records their own.
Recover a class in a follow-up
Section titled “Recover a class in a follow-up”A missed class can be given in a follow-up. When you record a student’s follow-up, under Course class, choose the Class given in this visit: the person is marked present at that class, even if they had missed it, and the class counts as attended. In a one-to-one course, an undated class takes the date of the visit.
In the group’s Students tab, Recover a class opens the follow-up with the missed class already chosen. The follow-up itself is explained in Pastoral follow-up.
