Promote, demote and change leaders

When a person grows, they move to another rung; when the person walking alongside them changes, they change leader. Inperia records both moves and, depending on your role, you apply them directly or propose them for someone else to approve.

Directly or through a proposal

A role can have one of these two permissions, never both. A role with neither can’t move anyone:

Promote and demote (direct decision): the move applies right away.
Propose promotions and demotions: the move becomes a proposal that higher leaders approve or reject.

With the roles Inperia comes with, Pastor decides directly, Leader proposes and Disciple doesn’t move anyone.

Promote or demote

Open the person’s record and select Growth ladder, or use the person’s menu in the Tree view.
Choose Promote or Demote. If your role can only propose moves, choose Propose promotion or Propose demotion.
Choose the New rung. If their current leader would end up below the new rung, also choose a New direct leader.
Select Apply movement or Create proposal.

If you decide directly and can edit the person’s roles, when the rung changes Inperia offers Change the access role too, so that what they can do in the app keeps pace with their new stage. With a direct decision you can also move several people at once: select them in the list and use Promote or Demote in the action bar.

If the new rung asks for courses the person hasn’t passed yet, the form warns you with Missing courses the rung asks for and names them. It’s only a warning: you can still make the change. When you move several people, it says how many of them are missing courses, and which ones.

Change leader

To have a person report to a different leader, go to the Tree view and use Change leader (or Propose leader change) in their menu. You can also drag from their card’s connection point to the new leader. If you decide directly, you can change it from their record as well: select Edit and choose the new one under Direct leader. If the person has people in their care, you choose between two options: they move alone and their people stay with the previous leader, or they move together with the people in their care.

Approval requests

Proposals wait in Settings › Growth Ladder, on the Approval Requests tab. Each request shows the person, their current and proposed rung, the proposed leader, the type of move and who proposed it.

Whoever can decide directly about that person approves or rejects the request. Pending requests also show up on the Dashboard and in notifications, and the person who proposed the move gets the answer.

There are three types of move: Promotion, Demotion and Transfer (a change of leader without a change of rung).
